A heartfelt story told by Smokey
Hi… it is me, Smokey.
This is my Smokey Thanksgiving story, something very close to my little heart.
Thanksgiving is usually a day when families sit together, eat good food, and share love. But this year, Mom is working. And even though I am just a little dog, my heart feels it.
When we drop Mom to work, the house feels different the moment we come back home.
I sit quietly for a little bit, letting it settle in that she is not here.
Then I stay close to Dad, watching him, waiting, missing her with every heartbeat.
I know she is helping people.
I know she works hard so we have everything we need.
But still… I miss her.
Why We Are Always Early to Pick Up Mom
You know something funny?
I am the boss when it comes to picking up Mom.
When it is time, I walk straight to Dad and tell him,
"Come on… let us go get Mom.”
I look at him with my big eyes, wiggle just a little,
and he understands exactly what I mean.
That is why we leave two hours early.
Because of me.
People might think that is too early.
But not for me.
I would rather sit in the car and wait for her.
Even if nothing is happening.
Even if it is quiet.
Even if it takes hours.
Because just being close to where she is…
makes me feel safe. It makes me feel happy.
It makes me feel near her heart.
And when she finally walks out of those doors…
tail wagging...
eyes shining…
my whole world lights up again.
That moment
is my Thanksgiving.
The Truth About Thanksgiving
Mom might think Thanksgiving is different this year.
She might feel sad she has to work
while other families sit at the table.
But this Smokey Thanksgiving story is not about food or a big celebration.
Thanksgiving is not about turkey.
It is not about a date on the calendar.
It is not about a big dinner.
Thanksgiving is love.
Thanksgiving is family.
Thanksgiving is the moment we are together again
after being apart.
When Mom opens the car door
and says,
“There is my baby,”
that moment is my holiday.
My Thanksgiving Message
Even though we do not celebrate Thanksgiving like everyone else…
Thanksgiving for me is every day.
Because every day, I am thankful to God the Father
and His Son Jesusfor giving me the best mom and dad
and for creating me with love.
And to anyone reading this who feels down…
or depressed…
or lonely…
do not be.
You are not alone.
You got me.
I am right here.
Your little friend… always.
Be thankful every day.
Not just on Thanksgiving…but every single day God gives you breath, love, and hope.
This is my Smokey Thanksgiving story, and I share it with love.
Happy everyday Thanksgiving.
Love,
Smokey
