Healing Faith and the Love of a Little Shih Tzu
Supporting Veteran and Corrections Families through Support Gap.
After my husband Dennis transitioned from the Air Force to a career in the State Prison system,
we found ourselves in the "Support Gap" of PTSD.
Smokey’s story and my memoirs offer hope, faith, and a path to healing for Veteran and Corrections families who feel left behind.

About Me
Hi, I’m Sheila Buffy, and this is Life With Smokey.
I write from real life because that is where the most important stories happen. My books come from the everyday moments that taught me strength and the quiet joy I found in family, faith, and hope. For me, writing is a way to share what is real and to connect with others who might be walking through their own difficult journeys.
My first book was inspired by life with Smokey, our Shih Tzu. I watched him grow from a tiny 8-pound puppy into a sturdy 25-pound protector, and along the way, his funny habits and quirks reminded me that happiness often lives in the simplest things.
He taught me that a little dog can fill a home with an incredible amount of love.
My second book, Love That Never Let Go, is a very different story. It is deeply personal and shares the honest truth about the "Support Gap" our family faced when my husband Dennis transitioned from the Air Force to a career in the state prison system. This book isn't about Smokey; it's about the quiet work of healing together and finding the strength to move forward when life feels heavy.
At home, I treasure life with Dennis and our big-hearted Smokey. I believe that by sharing our honest stories, we can help each other feel a little less alone. You can find my books on Google Play, Apple Books, Barnes and Noble, and right here on LifeWithSmokey.com.
