The Real Me Lives at Home

At work I am steady, professional, and focused. I do what needs to be done. But the real me, the expressive and imaginative me, lives at home. The moment I step through the door, it feels like another part of me wakes up. The part that sees magic in small things and stories in ordinary moments.

Smokey is at the heart of it all. He is not just my dog. He is the star of every story I never knew I needed to tell. Somehow, with him by my side, imagination flows as easily as breathing.

Finding Magic in the Ordinary

Life can feel heavy and messy. But when I let myself lean into imagination, the ordinary turns magical. Smokey can be sitting quietly in the corner, and suddenly I see a whole adventure unfolding around him. A Shih Tzu with soft fur, a funny underbite, and a confident look becomes more than a pet. He becomes a character. A little hero who makes the world brighter.

That is how Smokey became, at least in my mind, a surfing Shih Tzu.

The Surfing Shih Tzu Appears

It started one evening when Smokey was sitting calmly, watching me with those steady eyes that always feel like they hold secrets. The room seemed to shift, as if a door had opened into another world. In my mind, I saw Smokey leap onto a bright red surfboard, his ears flapping in the wind as waves crashed around him.

There he was, riding through city streets as if water had flooded every corner. Lights sparkled. Water sprayed high. He was confident, focused, and completely at home. He looked like a little legend, a fluffy superhero chasing adventure with courage and grace.

For a moment, it felt real. I laughed out loud and thought, “Did that just happen?”

Why Imagination Matters

Maybe it was only a dream in my head. But I believe imagination matters. It takes the weight of the world and gives us a softer place to rest. It turns ordinary evenings into adventures worth remembering. It allows me to see Smokey not only as the dog who comforts us in hard times, but also as the little star who reminds us life is still filled with wonder.

How Smokey Inspires Creativity

Smokey does not speak words, but his presence sparks stories in me. He is calm when I need calm, funny when I need to laugh, and steady when life feels unsteady. He makes me want to create. To write blogs. To capture moments on video. To turn small ideas into something that feels magical.

My husband Dennis encourages me too. He listens when I ramble about my ideas, never laughing at the way they sound, only reminding me that my words matter. He always tells me to keep being me. Between Dennis’s encouragement and Smokey’s presence, I find courage to let imagination flow freely.

More Than Just a Blog

This blog is more than a space to write about Smokey. It is my corner of the world where I can be my truest self. Here I do not have to hold back or worry about saying things the “right” way. Here I can tell stories of faith, love, healing, and sometimes even a Shih Tzu who surfs through the city on a bright red board.

Why I Will Keep Imagining

The world can feel heavy. But imagination is my way of pushing back against that weight. With Smokey as my muse, I can see magic in small moments. I can see stories where others see only routine. And I can remember that joy and creativity are still alive, even when life feels ordinary.

Final Thoughts of Smokey The Surfing Shih Tzu

Smokey may never actually surf through the city streets, but in my imagination he already has. And in that moment of creativity, I found joy that carried me through. That is the gift of imagination. It brings comfort, wonder, and laughter into places that need it most.

If this story made your heart smile, imagine what the full journey feels like. My book Smokey The Little Dog That Saved Us is filled with moments of love, laughter, and quiet magic. You can find it at LifeWithSmokey.com.
